Mission & Beliefs

MISSION STATEMENT

His Thousand Hills (HTH) exists to glorify God by partnering with churches and individuals to provide gospel centered retreats, camps, conferences and activities that support church ministries, as well as our local community, for the primary purpose of helping people of all ages find Jesus Christ and grow in their faith.

VISION STATEMENT

We seek to provide Christ honoring experiences through the beauty and quietness of God’s creation, our friendly hospitality, opportunities for spiritual growth, fellowship and fun in the safe comfort of our facilities.

STATEMENT OF FAITH

The following is the doctrinal statement of HTH:  It is required that all resident staff, all members of the Board, all staff, and anyone in any position of authority within the HTH organization subscribe to this statement without reservation.

  1. We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons:  the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

  2. We believe that the Old and New Testaments as originally written are the verbally inspired Word of God, and accept them as the supreme and all-sufficient authority in faith and life.

  3. We believe that man was created in the image of God, but that man sinned and thereby incurred both physical death and spiritual death which is eternal separation from God; and that each human being is born with a sinful nature and cannot by his own efforts please God.

  4. We believe that Jesus Christ paid the penalty for our sins and we are saved by grace through faith.

  5. We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, was born of the Virgin Mary, and is true God and true man.

  6. We believe that all who by faith receive the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and so become the children of God, to live with Him through all eternity.

  7. We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension into heaven, and in his present life there as our High Priest and Advocate.

  8. We believe in the personal, visible and glorious return of the Lord Jesus Christ to this earth.

CORE VALUES

We Value:
1.      Prayer – listening to and being directed by God
2.      God’s Word – in its entirety and inerrancy

3.      Partnership – serving other ministries, building God’s Kingdom, networking
4.      Community – being available to Wellsboro and surrounding areas
5.      Depth – encouraging next steps, spiritual growth events, training, team building
6.      Creation – experiencing God through the wonder of His creation
7.      Generosity – being affordable, willing, giving
8.      Safety – in our attitudes, facilities, programming, policies

9.      Saying “Yes” – as often as we can when meeting the needs and requests of others, saying “YES” to Jesus

STATEMENT ON SEXUALITY

We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning supported by scripture: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union (Gen. 2:18-25).  We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other (1 Cor. 6:18; 7:2-5; Heb.13:4).  We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman.

We believe that God wonderfully creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God (Gen.1:26-27).

We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity (Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31). Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor the values of HTH.

We believe that in order to preserve the function and integrity of HTH and to provide a biblical role model it is imperative that all staff and anyone in any position of authority within the HTH organization in any capacity, carry out their duties in a way that will support this Statement on Sexuality (Matt. 5:16; Phil. 2:14-16).

STATEMENT ON FINAL AUTHORITY

We love God and we love people. We love serving others as well as hosting camps and retreats. We invite all people of all walks of life to utilize our facilities. We understand that guests of HTH are not required to agree with or promote our statement of faith. However, if you are coming as a guest group, we ask that you do not hold activities or teach principles that are in conflict with our beliefs. As long as we respect each other’s beliefs, we can work together in harmony. Our desire is to love like Jesus and live like Jesus, while upholding biblical principles.

Our Statement of Faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For purposes of HTH’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, our board of directors is HTH’s final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.
