In 1960 a Baptist Evangelist had the vision for a Boy’s Ranch and he purchased the original farm here from the Phippen Family.  He created a ministry called Tioga Youth Ranch for boys.  The first Director was Mr. Carpenter.  He was a Wellsboro native and his family owned much of the surrounding land here on the hill.
That ministry continued to thrive until the late 70’s.  The property changed hands and was owned for a very short time by a Florida Christian College.
It was in 1979 that the Tom Uber acquired the property and started the ministry as His Thousand Hills.  Tom Uber managed the ministry for over 20 years focusing primarily on troubled youth.  When Tom decided to retire, the ministry went through several different Executive Directors until 2005 when Todd and Julia Moss answered the Lord’s call to take over the ministry.
It was quite a step of faith for Todd to leave a successful business that he had built in New York and take a non-paying job as Executive Director of a ministry that was having a serious struggle just to stay a float.  He and his wife Julia and their four small children have devoted their lives to the ministry here at His Thousand Hills since then.
At that time the ministry was in a very difficult time financially.  Because of the lack of funding the facilities was in very bad shape too.   The ministry was behind on taxes, mortagage payments and the board had considered simply shutting the doors.
But God had other plans… within the first year the Moss family was here the Lord took care of all the overdue bills and since He has continued to bless the ministry here at His Thousand Hills.
